GTI with Sunroof
« on: February 18, 2010, 08:21:08 pm »
Good evening.

Im new to the forum, so please forgive me if im a bit of a newbie lol. I may have the chance to buy a black mkv gti 06 reg with 32000 miles on the clock. I have a good deal set up, but the one thing im a bit concerned about is that it has a sunroof. Now i understand that this is quite rare, but what are people opinions on a sunroof on the GTI? Does anyone know of any kind of problems with them? I have also seen a 07 plate black GTI with 44000 miles on the clock with no sunroof. Which one would you have?

cheers

A sunroof wouldnt put me off in the slightest mate, i'd love one on mine!
The days of leaky troublesome sunroofs are well behind us, definately a nice option to have imo..

A sunroof brightens up the dark interior, and you can make it dark if and when you want by pulling the blind across.

I have a sunroof on mine and love it. Also had no problems with it.

I like it not for the cooling but for the lighting. Its great to have it open on a nice day, feels like you are sitting in the garden. I would prefer a panoramic one like I used to have on a Mini I had a few years ago they are great.

Not heard of any problems with a sunroof, nice to have and like you say not many do have them.  I had one on mine and it was a nice feature.

Its part of the auto-close too when you hold the keyfob down it shuts the windows and then the roof.

some people wont buy a car without one, it was the clincher on my current one, if i couldnt have the roof i didnt want to order..simples

better to have it than not, if you dont use it then so be it, summer is alot nicer with it, fresh air FTW

if its a structural integrity question then the shell isnt compromised for it being in place  :happy2:

In cars of old i used to have them - was good to leave open in the summer if you had to park the car so it wasnt as hot when you came back to the car. To an extent the addition of aircon negates it a bit but ETTO.

Personally i wouldnt be bothered either way if it had one i would consider it nice but not having one doesnt bother me. If however it was a choice of sunroof OR aircon like you used to get then it would be aircon all the way.

Id go for newer with more miles if both were in simelar condition.

Sunroofs are all good too, i usally spend a bit of time looking for cars with a sunroof but like you said they are quite rare on the GTI

I made sure I specced one on my car, I love them.  It's nice to have a bit of proper fresh air rather than air con, but sometimes it's too cold to put the window down (plus having the windon down messes my hair up ).
