New Engine

I have a Mk 5 GTi with a wrecked engine.
I absolutely love the Car.
What engine can I pick up for a reasonable price that will drop straight in and be bulletproof and I can thrash the guts out it?
Engine codes please.... :)

CDL from an S3 / Scirocco R or MK6 R. It's the toughest engine fitted to the MK5/6 platform. Try finding a decent one for reasonable money though.

I'll suggest looking for the CULC engine. It's an EA888 gen3 engine fitted on Scirocco and mk7 Golf Cabrio, so you can retrofit a much better engine on your mk5 Golf by using an ECU from those cars (PQ35 platform as well).

A 2014 GTI has a different chassis (MQB), so not as good and easy to swap to a PQ35 GTI.

What should I be looking to upgrade on my replacement engine?
Obviously cam belt and water pump.
My broken engine had a new high pressure fuel pump fitted, so I'm going to swap that over.
Anything else I should be looking at?
