HELP - Currently broken down
« on: June 11, 2019, 06:39:21 pm »
Sat here waiting for green flag to come out to my car but wondered if anyone could shed some light on the issues I’ve had.

Driving home tonight the abs and traction light started flashing on and off. Then every light including stop and engine oil pressure warning came on. Had my lights on so dashboard was illuminated but this was flicking on and off. Car was driving fine but decided to pull over and turn it off then on. Car would start up for a few seconds then cut out.

Bit of research seems to suggest could be the cluster? Could it just be a fuse?

Any help would be appreciated

I'd guess battery or alternator.

I'd guess battery or alternator.

It had a new varta battery couple of month ago, breakdown guy said could be alternator at a guess. Dropped it off at my local garage so will ring them in morning

The garage have said they will try to look at it today. But have said if its the cluster that's faulty they can't fix it, it will have to go to VW.

Hopefully not as I can imagine a new cluster supplied and fitted from VW won't be cheap!

Where abouts are you?

VW retrofit in Redditch can probably fix it for you.

So the garage have just rang me and are scratching their heads a bit. They have scanned the car and found faults in every control unit on the car (think there are 16) apart from the stereo. Apparently 6-7 fault codes in each unit and seemingly each unit is not talking with each other.

They've cleared the codes and dash lights and the car now starts and runs but have got an electrician there now trying to get to the bottom of it as it will probably happen again.

Anyone had anything similar? Sign of the Dash cluster failing?
