GTI power?
« on: February 23, 2010, 01:05:43 pm »
Hi this is my first post so sorry if it sounds stupid.

I’ve got a 58 plate manual GTI and I was wondering what I can do power wise without voiding the warranty. Also would like to ask if I have to get it serviced by a VW dealership while it is still under warranty as some people have told me I don’t.

thanks

With regards to the servicing, you can get your car servcied anywhere you want as long as they are VAT Registered and carry out the service according to what is laid out in the service book and that they use Official VAG parts.
Unfortunately any mods will invalidate your warranty as your car will not be the same spec as it left the factory. Some garages will turn a blind eye to them but some will be following the warrranty agreement to the letter. Just really depends on your garage.

mines a 58 plate and hasn’t been serviced by a main dealer. always goes to a specialist. as long as they use genuine parts it doesnt matter if it is serviced by a main dealer or not. as for modifying your car its a risk you have to take. some dealers will honor warranty claims others wont. but in 22,000 miles it hasn’t put one foot wrong. as was only standard for around 3,000 miles.

Thanks for the reply’s my car has only done about 8000 miles so due for a service soon that’s all.

What about if I need new breaks could I take it to another garage as long as they use VW parts?

Newey what have you done to your GTI then if you don’t mind me asking

Yep. As long as they use Genuine VAG parts then you are all good. New Brakes at 8K though??

Unfortunately any mods will invalidate your warranty as your car will not be the same spec as it left the factory.

....Not exactly so. If, for example, you have a remap or an aftermarket exhaust, and your windscreen wipers go mad, your wipers will still get fixed under warranty. Another example is if you have DSG and its Mechatronics unit fails, but you have an aftermarket TBE exhaust, it won't invalidate your warranty. Also, if you can have some of your mods installed by your VW dealer you'll find they become more helpful. It's all about open and solid working relationships.

Cool

Unfortunately my dealer wasn’t to helpful on that front. I will inquire a bit more when it goes in for service

Thanks

Dealers customer service varies wildly unfortunately. The countryside based ones are far more eager to help - Their business success or failure can rely on local reputation and repeat customers.
