Cruise control & mfsw - troubleshooting
« on: January 13, 2020, 02:37:10 am »
Ok so when I bought the car it came with a cc stalk fitted but it has never worked in my ownership. The car is a 2006 manual gti but has a dsg mfsw fitted, the buttons on the wheel don’t work either.

Have a code logged on a cheapie vag 405 - P1643 which seems to be a note for a cc fault but no further details.

I’ve been reading countless threads trying to suss it all out but I’m totally confused with slip rings & control modules.

Would my car have the diagnostic wire? Could this be what is missing?

2006 manual gti
Highline (1K6920972D) coded 0005403

Can anyone offer any advice as to why these two things wouldn’t be operational but not throwing proper codes?

I’m in Northern Ireland so finding a VAG-Com guru local to me is proving difficult.

TIA

Quick check on the code reader tells me I have  steering wheel control module - 1K0953549AF & coding is down as 0000042.
I take it the only way to check the slip ring type is to to remove it?
From what I can see my control module is for midline & isn’t compatible with cc or mfsw. Am I right in thinking I need a new control module 1K0-953-549-CH? If so, would I need the additional harness 5K0971584C?
