I found my stage 1 car to be smoother and more responsive with these plus eldor r8 red coils

Splash out?  They're less than half the price of the OEM plugs!

FWIW, the OEM spec is NGK PFR7S8EG.  90K mile range double platinum, heat range 7.   £7 each from somewhere like sparkplugs.co.uk   Don't hand over £25 each to VW for them.....although in all honesty, I've compared the two side by side and the VW ones do look better made.

As others have said, these engines do seem to like the BKR7EIX with red top coils.  Don't know why, just one of those things!  Ignore these plugs being touted as an 'upgrade'.  They're not, they're the same heat range as stock.  Just slightly better conductivity than platinum.
