Thermostat seal / O-ring
« on: April 25, 2020, 06:53:28 pm »
Hi all,
BWA engine, you have 2 pipes going into the front of the thermostat housing, top one help on by a spring clamp and the lower one is the metal hard pipe that is held into the housing with a T30 bolt. Well the rubber O ring on my hard pipe has failed and leaking coolant, I’m going to ring AKS on Monday to order a new thermostat and hopefully they’ll be able to supply with me with a new O ring too. But if anyone knows the part number to help me source one if AKS can’t that will be great. Thanks :-)

Cheers, you sure I’ll receive the O ring for the hard pipe? So if you’re right, I should have 2 seals come? One for the thermostat to the block, and one for the hard pipe to the thermostat housing?

The O ring you need is a 20x3, nitrile or similar. The part number for genuine is N90365302.

Spot on FJB!! Thank you! I literally this minute just found the seal on “vwsupply.co.uk”
Never even heard of the website before but it seems pretty good with diagrams etc. It said £2.45 for seal with free delivery from Germany. 5-6 business days delivery though. So going to ask AKS tomorrow see what they can do. If not I might think about ordering a 20x3 O ring off eBay. Thanks for your help.
That one O ring cost me all afternoon yesterday taking inlet manifold off cleaning the intake valves and finding the coolant leak! What a balls ache cleaning those valves and they’re not even super clean! Never again.. I’ll pay for walnut next time (plan on that anyway with a map next year).
Thanks again.
