Panel filters

Can anybody recommend one? Are there any out there that make any difference at all or should I just stick with the OEM?

Proper OEM replaced every couple of thousand miles or K&N

Beware of any aftermarket filter that is oiled, if oil gets on the MAF it's going to cause you trouble.

I have fitted a ram air no oil type very slight increase in performance small decrease in fuel used

Personally I'd rather stick with the OEM and replace it every year.

OEM filter or dry foam, such as the PiperCross.  You won't notice much difference.  The difference between driving into or behind a strong wind, or the difference in weight between an empty and full tank both cause more of a performance change than a panel filter!

Where are the facts that oil based filters contaminate MAF's?
Contaminating MAF was a marketing ploy put out by dry filter manufacturers.

I ran an oil based filter on previous Mk4 with MAF for over a year without issue - along with many others with 1.8T & R32

OEM filters flow better than anything else when brand new - but their flow performance drops below K&N after a few thousand miles.

That's probably because the OEM filter is actually doing it's job and blocking up while the K&N is still letting all the crap through.

i think you're splitting hairs. These cars are less than 200bhp as standard. Changing the panel filter will mean a little more noise at most.

I'd put the £30 or whatever a non-standard panel filter costs towards decent tires if you don't already have them.

I was just wondering if anybody has noticed any difference mate. All four tyres are Goodyear eagle F1s so I’m ok in that department 👍🏻

A Pipercross panel filter and pre cat delete added 13 extra horses. Have no idea on how much the filter made of that 😁

That’s hard to argue with given that both mods are almost free and there are no side effects like noise / mot fails etc.
