Front discs and pads
« on: August 23, 2020, 04:31:23 pm »
Needing new front discs and pads.
Something bog standard will do fine, should I stick with either Bosch or Pagid?
Any one made a similar purchase recently and if so where from?

Might stick with Bosch then, thanks for the info.

I put on Brembo discs and pads in January.  I think they were about £90 all in using a discount code from eurocarparts.

No complaints from me.  The only slight issue was that the provided disc retaining screw with the discs was the wrong size.  Not a bit issue as I just reused the old one.

If it's just bog standard basics, I'd just fit OEM stuff personally.

Pagid is owned by a Japanese company btw, not Indian.  Not necessarily a bad thing.  Silent partner ownership may change but the production facilities and technology doesn't change.

Thanks for your input. OEM, Bosch, Padgid etc all similar prices so I'm sure I'll get something easy enough.

Oh forgot to mention, if you get OEM ones there's 2 choices.  'Eco' and regular GTI.  The Eco ones are a lot cheaper and last longer, which you can take as less stopping power

The OEM brand is TRW iirc.  They might be available on ECP etc without the dealer tax.

Could use this as a chance to upgrade to R32/S3 brakes?

I’ve got a set of calipers from my old car knocking around in the garage if you’re interested (S3 8V calipers), one of the best upgrades I did to my car

340mm brakes were much better than the existing 312mm set up as standard
