Warm start up missfire!Update.. Conclusion

Anyone have an idea's

Have developed a missfire apon start up that clears after a few seconds??

Power still seems to be at top end, but isnt very smooth on tickover??

Hasnt been great since milly downpipe install, that i origonally posted about.

Am removing my stage 2 map to try in stock mode to see if that cures?

Any idea's??

Also when you rev the engine, its alot slower to return to idle speed of 800rpm, after you fire the engine up?

also noticed, that when you shut the engine down, there is a high pitch squeel coming from somewhere in the engine bay for about 3-4 seconds after youve turned off the engine.

When you start the car, it seems like the engine is hunting, and then settles down after a few moments, but definatley when you throttle off, it takes twice as long to return to idle speed.

Does this sound like a split Diverter Valve??

Get it vagcom,d to see if there are any faults before it goes into the dealer. My bet is either a fault somewhere with the plugs or MAF meter on the way out!

Apon further investigation, with the bonnet lifted, there is an air leak coming from down towards the bottom of the cambelt cover, which after having a chat with the forums Mod guru, would point towards a damaged Turbo discharge pipe, which could well of been damaged acidently when my downpipe was installed. So will be calling the Garage that done it tomorow :happy2:.

Would be the reason why i wasnt happy with the cars idle speed after having the downpipe installed. fingers crossed

Have traced the fault today to the PCV has blown, and that its crankcase pressure thats coming out of the vent to air hole in the diaphram housing on tickover.

£28 for  new valve housing, arrives friday and i will fit to save a bill from Vw.
 Oh the joys of remapping  :fighting:

common fault steve - you should have gone for the forge or bsh  pcv fix and catch can

as it may well go again and with the uprated ones you remove alot of the crap going into the engine

Im not convinced on a catch can James tbh .

I will continue to sit on the fence as to regards whether imo they really need a catch can.

Perhaps when i remove the old unit on friday, if its full of gunk and crap, then perhaps something will need to be installed.
This valve blowing is common as you say for mapped cars especially.
Shes not lacking in power as yet, but i will photograph whats inside it on friday to see whether a can is justified.|(43k miles)

An uprated one would be a good suggestion if it happens again, as its only £28 , i ll give another oem one a go.Part number has had a change in part number on vw's computers. Maybe its an updated version?.We shall see :happy2:

i believe vw have updated the pcv so hopefully you should be alright

you wont see much with the pcv off - you need to delve deeper and get a look at the cylinders to see the real nasty stuff

i empty mine every other week - pretty gunky stuff comes out of it - rather out than in imo

If you don't want the catch can then you can take one step back from it and use the pcv revamp kit http://www.bshspeedshop.com/store/home.php?cat=1119
