Brake retaining disc bolt sheered
« on: July 06, 2021, 06:56:25 pm »
So, go on a trip away and cue sudden rubbing noises, luckily fairly close to where we're staying.
Car jacked up and nsf wheel off and notice brake disc retaining bolt has sheered.
So .... Why was it rubbing as disc is still held on by wheel bolts?
I've put the wheel back on with maybe more grunt with the pry bar and will test in the morning.

Maybe I should say that the fronts have been upgraded to the 7r brakes 3 months ago so have the tts/ttrs (can't remember which it is now) 340mm discs.

Stupid question now, if road test proves to be quiet would it be ok for a 5 hr drive like that or should I get the bolt drilled out and replaced, take it that's possible?

Cheers for any advice.

I’ve had no retaining screw holding my front discs on to the hub for the last two sets of discs it only really there to keep the holes in the disc lined up with the treaded holes in the hub and after a few weeks a little bit of rust will do the same as the screw just make sure you pull them down square with the wheel bolts and your sorted

Cheers, does that mean the wheel wasn't right enough or had worked loose?
It was torqued to 125lb.

Panic over rain stopped so extra beef on the pry bar and it's sorted thanks.
The wheel bolts must have eased off a tad.
