Hello,
I own a Mk5 GTI Edition 30 (08 plate) with 108k on the clock. Recently it failed its MOT when they ran the emissions test as they reported the garage filled up with smoke. The garage had previously checked the car due to me reporting that it was using a lot of oil but no leaks were found. I have since had it looked at by a local VW dealer and they report back that they are 90% sure it is the turbo that is at fault (they showed me a picture with oil on the turbo). They have carried out a health check and also spent time on other tests. My problem now is that they are quoting me £2.5k to supply and fit a new turbo. The other option they have offered me is to take my old one off completely to check it definitely is the turbo but to do that and put it back on is £1.3 k. I don't have any issues when I drive the car, no loss of power or large amounts of smoke coming out the back and the VW diagnostics test they ran shows no other faults. I have looked around to see if I can source a turbo unit myself but haven't seen many options and Euro Car Parts have told me they don't stock it either. I feel at this point in time I am not left with many options and it may be the end of the road for my car.
I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this?
Cheers Ben
