Compatibility between cluster and MFSW
« on: October 25, 2021, 02:31:07 pm »
Hello everyone,

Not sure this it the right place to ask this, but please excuse me as I'm new  :innocent:

I have purchased and installed MFSW with the newer buttons with OK on the right. Now looking at installing a highline cluster, however it seems I made a little mistake there. Now to the question:

Will 1k0 920 871B work with the new button design or do I need to sell that and replace with 2/3/4 ?

I tried looking through other threads for this info but I seem to find that some people manage to get the buttons working, others don't and it would be nice to have the answer before going down on it with VCDS!

Thanks in advance! :drinking:

The cluster replacement depends on the cluster you have installed from factory.  The early Mk5 up to 2006 have one type of immobiliser but can be easily reprogrammed with the correct cable and software, and the later versions are much more difficult and need specialist assistance......pending p/n

I installed MFSW buttons on my standard GTI wheel, but the steering wheel module needed to be highline compatible also......mine was a midline Type 1 and needed one that has highline Type 1

You need to find the p/n of what is in the car originally and work from there.......this page has golden information that I used to find the correct upgrade modules.

Thanks for the response.

I have already replaced the steering wheel module ( forgot to mention that ) and the steering wheel is in place and buttons have their lights on, but I am currently with lowline cluster so they do nothing at all.

I will be driving to a specialist for the replacement of the cluster (already tried once and I messed it up doing it myself ) but what I am worried about is whether the buttons on the MFSW will work with this highline cluster or its going to need the wiper stalk. There is someone in another thread that mentioned he has done it, but never saw a second one or input from him on the questions how -  https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=91363.0.  If anyone has tried MFSW on 871/971 cluster - the input will be highly appreciated.   :drinking:
