Woosh sound under acceleration on my edition30????
« on: February 16, 2022, 05:19:56 pm »
Hi guys, I’ve recently purchased an edition 30 which was super rapid but for some reason the performance has dropped and I have a whooshing noise under acceleration.
When I got the car the chap said it had been mapped and tbh it felt like it no proof though.

So my first job was to replace the hpfp and It hand the usual crack in the fuel pressure reg plug.

I sourced a decent 2nd one and used  VIS internals for further tuning.

It’s got an oversize intake which came with the car.

After changing the fuel pump I tested for fault codes and there were none.

I then went on to fit a twintercooler which I’ve since removed and fitted the stock intercooler pipes.

I now have a whoosh sounds under acceleration and it feels like the turbo isn’t boosting like it did ?????

I’ve replaced the original dv that came on the car when I got it which incidentally was a rev g with another rev g.

I’ve had a good look at the pcv system which looks fairly new.

I’ve also taken off the intake pipe the goes to the turbo as it had a little movement and cleaned the oil off and re mounted it and used a proper jubilee clip instead of the standard be clamp.

I’m not sure where to look now.

I get the usual flutter when lifting off the throttle.

But it’s like my boost has just disappeared.

Any help would be great guys.

Couple places for investigation:
-drivers side boost pipe to intercooler, these have a rubbish clip and seal design and alot of us have found oil sludge weeping out of them which points to it not being properly sealed. The o ring seals may have gone, cheap and easy to replace.
- if you've taken the old intercooler out and back in, possible could have damaged it? I've heard of a couple of owners finding tiny cracks in the intercoolers before.
- PCV and pcv hoses can go, though not sure you'd have a loud whooshing noise.
- DV but unlikely as you say its been done recently
- rocker cover gasket leak

I was chasing a similar issue on mine, it was only at peak torque in higher gears and only about 1/3 times would it happen. After fitting an intake you can hear the boost leaks very well! I changed tons of stuff and was convinced it was the intercooler/connection somewhere but R tech tuned it recently and said it was the rocker cover gasket. After tuning it was far worse and very loud, due to the extra boost. On my list of things to change in next few weeks.

did the car still feel rapid after you installed the twintercooler?  if it felt slow directly after then i would assume boost leak from intercooler some where,   incidently mine made the same woosh sound when the rev g dv went but the sound was coming from the ramair filter on the opposite side from where the dv is located which through me in the beginning, probably still worth checking as ive heard of the gs blowing in as little as hundreds of miles when tuned
