Mk6 Golf R with door protective strip
« on: December 02, 2022, 08:49:06 am »
Hi everyone

Just realised my new-to-me Mk6 Golf R has the protective strip from a Mk5?? Can't find any other Mk6 Golf/R with this strip other than the Golf Plus which is completely different.
Also, ETKA doesn't have this strip for any mk6. I'm hoping that there are no holes behind it but apprehensive to try removing. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

It’s a bit of a job ,but you could remove one door card and check the outer skin from the inside . Then hope that the one you’ve checked is the door they were covering some up on or not

This way if you find holes it’s cost nothing to just replace the door card and live with the strips

I can't imagine they would have drilled holes.  Can you see any double sided tape if you look closely?  I guess if they did drill it, you'll have to put the strips back on!

TBH, unless you had pointed it out, I wouldn't have noticed and they're no bad thing for car parks.

I've decided I want to remove them, I believe it is just some foam adhesive  What would you guys use? I was thinking some sort of wire like fishing line or would investing in a hot wire be worthwhile? Removing the adhesive is my only concern, I have CarPro TarX but it's not the best... I used it to remove the foam adhesive from some stuck on wind deflectors, wasn't great.

Thanks.
