I had an intermittent fault with the locking module not unlocking my door every time, eventually got worse to the point it hasn’t opened in months, after spending 2 days trying to get the door open I found a fix.

My issue was that the motor inside was not completing the full movement to unlock the door, it would result in a double click when unlocking the car.

I managed to get the door card off by pretty much yanking the interior door card off, I had previously left the 2 bottom screws out from when it was open previously and only snapped 2 of the clips that hold in the card.

Once that was off I could remove the speaker to get some access to the module, even though it’s difficult to see.

This is how we were able to tell that the motor inside the module was not completing. Probably due to grease build up inside the motor.

I then drilled a hole through the internal skin on the door and then through the plastic casing of the module. I then sprayed wd40 into the housing and continued to lock and unlock the car to try and work it through. After about 5 mins it didn’t double click, pulled the handle and at last! It was open! Saved having to cut the exterior door panel off the get the door open.

I’ll attach some photos of the hole location.

I’m going to have to do this on my rear near side passenger door. It’s temperamental at best! Thanks for the pics

I exhausted every other option on the front door and was just no other way of unlocking it without cutting the exterior door trim.

I’m sure I’ve read online other ways to get the rears open?

Just an absolute nightmare of a job 😂

When mine wouldn't open from the outside or inside, I took it to VW and they opened it and changed the door mechanism.
I later found out that if the door won't open from the outside and Inside it's because one of the cables that connects to the mechanism is pulled slightly so you have to pull the door handle, unclip the little black tab as pictured and then open it from the Inside. Then once the doors open you can take off the door skin to replace it.

Believe me mate, I had tried all of that before this 😂 My issue wasn’t the cable it was the motor not fully operating. My fix is literally a last resort without having to cut the exterior panel 👍🏻
