Buzz on cold start
« on: September 19, 2023, 12:09:12 pm »
Hello

I have an 07 mk5 gti. I have a weird buzz on cold start for a second or two, only first thing in the morning. My first thought was timing chain tensioner. Although, the noise is coming from the intake area and definitely not the cam chain housing. Phase Position is at 2.0 so i don’t think the tensioner isn't the problem. Another  thought was was the cams having a lack of oil on start up, I took the valve cover off and inspected the cams and there is not any wear. I have cleaned the oil pick up too.

I have looked at heaps of videos online and the only thing that sounds similar is the noise of a failing SAI pump on a mk6 or mk7. But I’ve been lead to believe mk5 gti doesn’t have an SAI pump so it can’t be that.

My final guess was injector solenoids and I’m in the process of sorting those now.

If anyone has any other ideas please share.
