Noises from the rear
« on: October 12, 2023, 10:40:06 pm »
Starting to hear creaking noises from the rear while coming to a stop driving at slow speeds.  Any suggestions?

I have my car booked in next week for the same noises as yourself. The rear control arm bushes are tired on my car so we suspect this is the issue. So I’m getting the rear control arm bushes replaced, ARB bushes and drop links at the same time. Hope this helps.

Mine is making the same noises too, was going to replace the ARB bushes and the drop links - hasn't looked at the control arms so will look at those too now!!

GreigC - Do you mind if I ask you home much that lot cost?  I have been planning to do the work myself but my time keeps getting taken up with other jobs, so thinking I might book it in.

I know it hasn;t fixed your problem so it might not fix mine, but the state of the ARB bushes in particular they need doing anyway!

It's probably the trailing arm bushes. The ones that sit in the recessed cup.

What's the general consensus on ECP bits like Starline and Febi for droplinks and bushes?  Is there much differene between OEM in terms of quality anbd price?

Edit to add...

Just been on the phone to VW and the droplinks are basically £100 inc Vat for a pair (£50 for starline at ECP) and the D-bushes for the ARB are about £30 (£6 Febi from ECP) not including the bracket and the bolts - is it likely I'll need to replace those too?  Is OEM worth it in this case? it's a lot extra!

Fitted Starline ARB links from ECP a year ago on the MOT and the drivers side is already worn out and knocking.

Well I have bought Febi as I was too impatient to wait for a reply haha.  Will have to see how they go, some pretty mixed reviews on the net but they aren't expensive so if they don't last then I'll upgrade next time
