Ac losing refrigrant over a period of four days
« on: November 19, 2024, 11:16:42 am »
I am experiencing ongoing issues with the ac system in my MK5 GTI. The system was regassed once, but the refrigerant lasted only four days. A second regas was performed, this time with the inclusion of dye to detect potential leaks, yet the refrigerant again lasted only four days. Despite these attempts, the technicians have been unable to locate any leaks. Could you please advise on potential causes or next steps to resolve this issue?

Could be multiple points of leak, but the pressure sensor failing is common.  Number 18 on diagram below. Its usually the o-ring (number 47) that perishes. Easy replacement but tricky to access with a spanner.

I had to replace my pressure sensor this year because it was leaking. To find the leak I had a mobile A/C specialist come round and use a detector to find the leak. He had a wand and it beeped where it picked up refrigerant gas.

If it is the pressure sensor it's not the worst job but access isn't amazing and a crows foot spanner is needed

The condenser is the usual culprit as it's the first to get all the stones and crap thrown at it.
