Which brake pads and discs?

I have a habit of warping front discs, and attribute it to spirited driving on less than perfect discs, so I'm going to swap mine out for a decent set of discs and pads.

I had seen a pair of Brembo discs on parts in motion for just under £100 but they only have the offer 345mm ones now, or £200 for a pair of drilled ones which is overkill. So I've been looking at other brands, any recommendations?

EBC ones aren't too pricey either, worth the money?

Just put a set of Pagid Discs and pads on my MK7.5 and have no complaints. Got them from Power Brakes. I'm sure they'll do MK5 ones too.

Pagid are my go to brand, always great quality.

I've got Pagid pads on the rear and I have to say I'm not loving them, they make far too much dust. I don't know what make pads are on the front but they make considerably less dust. I was actually thinking about swapping the rears for another brand even though they're not worn out just because of the mess they make. The only problem I've got is I don't know what make to go for, I would definitely use the same brand as the front if I knew what it was.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone has got any.
EBC 's marketing says all the right stuff but I done a search on the forum and it appears  people don't seem to like them.

I've got TRW aftermarket pads on mine and they are good.

I had some brembo discs on the front and they warped even from my pathetic attempts at driving. Replaced the with ATE and no problems since.
The only good thing on the brembos was the black edge finish which lasted whereas on the ATE's they weren't painted to rusted pretty quickly.

I usually get Pagid disc and pads......the discs in particular for the quality and that they are painted, so do not rust like others.

Recently though I have gone for EBC grooved and dimpled for the front and MTEC grooved and dimpled on the rear.  These had the option to also have to painted from factory and have held up well.

What pads have you been using with the new discs, how are you finding them compared to the Pagid for dust.

You will always get dust, but with my recent setup I am using Brembo pads all round.  No issues or difference in dust creation.

I have the 345mm front and 310mm rear setup

The dirty wheel is the rear with Pagid pads. That's only after about 100 miles. After another 100 it's really dirty and the front stays far cleaner. I just find it really annoying haha. It's definitely put me off Pagid.

Pagid have got a new pad out called Street+ which is getting good reviews. Might be worth a look.

As for discs, I only ever had good luck with genuine ones when it comes to warpage.

Personally I went for MTEC grooved discs with Mintex (Sprint) pads. The same (but model specific) pads I use in a 968CS and have never regretted it. Spoke to a Mintex techie told him I was looking for a hard on-off sprint/twisties braking equivalent. Love them, low dust and no squeal. As always everyone has their 'choice' combo. If interested I can pass on the Mintex numbers.

I like the sound of low dust and no squeal. Do they perform like normal pads as in not too grippy causing sharp braking, and they perform properly under normal operating temperatures, because I use my car as my daily driver its most important job is to just behave like a normal car most of the time. If so I would appreciate you sharing the part number.

Sure. I noticed no excessive increase or change in dust, other than normal road use when I changed to the Mintex pads. They are definitely not 'grabby' in an on/off sense. The GTi is my daily hack and sometimes worked hard (when a nice road opportunity appears!). Normal driving or gentle use they're fine and arguably not much different to standard pads. However, when I cadence brake, or apply a full force late brake (straight line, pre tight bend/roundabout) they really haul the car up, and that is what impresses me the most. The GTi isn't tracked, but I know what to expect when braking hard on a very 'spirited' open b-road drive.

There are many other better (track focussed) combos out there of the Pagid/PFC/Other varieties, but they tend to work best at a higher temp operating window, whereas I specifically wanted good performance under normal road temps and was pointed in the Mintex direction. MDB2580 + MDB2604 are the pad numbers - you'll need to look up which numbers are front/rear.

Brembo's xtra range is pretty decent - running drilled discs on the MK5 (with 6R conversion) and grooved on the front of our MK7 diesel along with their xtra pads. Really decent stopping power for stock brakes.
