Number plate light style reversing camera
« on: December 28, 2024, 06:25:25 pm »
Looking for some advice from those who may have done this already.  Just fitted an RCD330 to my ED30, and also wanted to add a reversing camera.  I've got a number plate light style camera but I'm trying to figure out the best way to get power to it.  The instructions were pretty much useless, but after much research I think I have 2 options:

1: Take power from the reversing light.
2: Take power from a "reversing trigger" at the head unit end using the red cable attached to the Yellow phono-style video connector.  Problem is none of the cables are labelled and I can't work out what I should connect into to get power so that the camera turns on when I select reverse.

Any guidance appreciated!

Take power from the reversing light but before you feed that power to the camera, run it through a power stabilizer. Otherwise the image will come out with bad signal. The stabilizer units are mostly made in china, are cheap to get, and from my experience, burn out after about a year so dont worry too much about it's placement. Put it under the plastic trunk lid cover and tie it to something with tape, like next to the trunk lock/unlock mechanism, so you can easily change it when needed.
