What is this split hose?
« on: Yesterday at 02:51:46 pm »

Can anyone kindly tell me what this split hose is in my engine bay? On the right side. Is this a major concern?

I don't know much about cars and always wanted a golf gti. There seems to be a minor oil leak too.

That's not hose, it's a cover around the wiring loom so nothing to worry about. If you can clean the area with brake cleaner hopefully you will be able to see where the leak is coming from. It's possibly coming from the vac pump which is directly above the electrical plug in your picture. Apparently very common, mine is leaking another job I need to do.

Get that vacuum pump serviced too (the parts above the wiring loom that's leaking). Mine was also leaking but I paid it no mind. it ended up failing while driving and almost couldn't stop.

That's a relief. I'll get it checked out. Thanks.

Thanks for replying.

How much does a vacuum pump service cost usually?
I was wondering if I would need to do the rocker cover too. Thoughts?

Yes it's most likely the brake vacuum pump. For me it was leaking and made a hole in the casing. I replaced my seals just yesterday.
As far as I know, you can't buy OEM seals and you normally have to replace the whole unit. However if you look on ebay you can find some seals.

Here's a video I followed:

The oem pump is expensive as f*ck but you can go with a Pierburg aftermarket unit. Here they retail for about $180 each. Or you can get an ebay pump seal rebuild kit and try your luck with that. You take the pump apart and change the seals. I went with a used pump but that started leaking too so I'll be buying a Pierburg pump later on.
