Heres a couple of older ones of mine, it's Sage Green but it gives you an idea ..........

Sorry for the camera phone quality, wish I had the equipment and the skills to take some photos like some of the people on here!

I took mine to a really good bodyshop in my area. They rubbed down the valance, built it up with a high build primer, smoothed it, painted and lacqured it, fitted it then gave me a bill for £195.

Vinal wrap it, basically a big sticker. I doubt it would work without smoothing it anyway so you would still have to go through the rub down and build up process anyway. Always an option though

I think I paid a premium price to be honest. Its the biggest bodyshop in the area and does the insurance work for almost every dealer around here. It is the only place I have ever and will ever take my cars. I got one quote of £320 :surprised:

After putting a little bit of money into my car and buying it in the 1st place, I didn't want to spoil it with a crap paintjob done on the cheap. That said, I think it's one of the things that improves the look of the exterior of the car the most!

I dont think people in this thread understand vinyl wrapping properly.

There is absolutely no 'rubbing down' or anything. Simply clean the paint and apply. Most vinyl is 'breathable' so you get 0 air bubbles. Its removable and there are loads of places that can do it now.

Applying it to out the factory black plastic (like the MK5 GTI bumpers) is different though isn't it Jules?

I'm under the impression plastic does have to be rubbed down or sanded?   Correct me if I'm wrong

I looked into my R32 plastic part (around the exhaust) and was told it would be fine. Maybe its different on the GTI though?

Anyone know?

I would have thought it would need smoothed as it's not going onto a surface thats already painted, it's going onto the textured plastic lower valance?! Could be wrong though, i've never wrapped anything so not too sure......
