Side skirt questions
« on: April 11, 2010, 07:17:25 am »
At the moment, and fitted by a previous owner I've got ABT side skirts on my 2005(55)my06 GTI.

As part of an overall improvement programme I want to change them out for more OEM.

Can anyone help clear a few things up please,

1. Are edition 30 skirts and R32 skirts the same?

2. Are 5 door and 3 door skirts the same?

I need to code the skirts to tornado red, so am trying to avoid STD oem gti textured skirts.

Abt valance below for reference...

Next in line for change is to off the milltek quads and abt rear valance... But that's a load more expense and another thread later in the year... :happy2:

1. Yes

2. I don't think so, some else may be able to confirm.

just buy gti plastic skirts and get them smoothed at a bodyshop probly cost u less than buyin r32 or ed30 skirts pre primed i think the gti ones are like 50 quid from dealers and r32 ones near 200

There is a small difference between the Eddie and the R side skirts, but it is tiny and only a real geek would spot it.  :happy2:

The skirts have different part numbers depending on 4 door and 2 door.

The black gti skirts are 38 squid each side from vw

 I thought they looked odd. Then again, I do have an ED30!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

anyone looking to fit these (you always learn after one) put them on then remove the backing adhesive tape.  it pulls out even though its tight.  its much easier to fit over the support without the impact adhesive trying to grab everything

Isn't there a detail near the back of the GTi whereas the R32 is completely smooth....but don't quote me on that.

Holy old post ressurection Batman!

Have since swapped my skirts for oem r32s, front and rear spoilers for ed30's. Of course as I had a quad zorst I moved that off for an oem ed30 zorst too.   :happy2:

Keeping the car until March 2013 so just wanted it the way I'd like it.  :drinking:
