Hi all,

Need some advice on wether its possible to fit the MFSW with paddles to a DSG car with standard  steering wheel and at what cost for retrofit.

What modifications/coding are needed for the retrofit so I can link up my new RNS510 to it?

Any advice and coments welcome.

Lee.

It's definitely possible to do the retrofit, but it's not one for the faint hearted...

This is from a US forum so part numbers may be different but it should give you an idea of what is required to do the actual retrofit.

A MFSW can be picked up from eBay for about £200 but the other bits (slip ring, airbag harness, controller, etc.) will be also have to be sourced and I'm not sure about exact pricing on those...

As far as I know, DSG cars are only in need of the buttons. The wiring should be there, but not sure if that only applies to GTIs.

How would I know if I have the right module for the MSFW and paddles?

Can I access it by Vagcom by any chance.

Thanks for the replies but keep them coming please.

D'oh I must've missed that you had DSG in your original post... sorry!

When you say you have a "standard steering wheel" I take it you still have the paddles?  If so then as I understand it you will have everything you need other than the button panels.

That sounds like a win but in actuality getting just the buttons isn't the easiest of tasks.  Dealers want about £90 for each side!  If you're lucky you'll be able to source a set from eBay (German listings are your best bet) but it's not an easy task.  Richn83 was looking at getting some as a Group Buy -- might be worth seeing how he's getting on as it's been quiet on that front for a while.

As Damien says if you have the paddles then you will already have the right controller, and slip-ring for the MF buttons, I dont think they were standard on the GT (correct me if im wrong) did yours come with the paddles?

Not had much luck on finding someone with a group of buttons yet, the previous guy hasnt responded to my emails.  I have been keeping an eye out for some more coming up but no luck as yet.  :sad1:

Lee if you go post up on the group buy thread I started I will post once I find a good reasonably priced source!  :happy2:

I don't have paddles on my steering wheel, probably not the right controller module either.
How much is controller if mine is not suitable? will have a look in that group buy.

I havent looked into the cost and work involved in replacing the slip-ring and controleer as I have the paddles, I know that JPC put a MFSW in his GT TDI, not sure if he did a write up on it, some of the links below might help you figure it out....
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,12402.0.html  you should be able to get the part number off the steerign wheel control module.

This thread might also be useful....

No problem, it does seem like a lot of hassle, it maybe a good long term project, if you figure out the part-numbers and just see what comes up in the for sale section and ebay get a bit cheap here and  there.  Glad your enjoying your RNS510 though, they really are top!  :jumpmove:

Your best bet maybe to get a new steering wheel with paddles. They come up once in a blue moon.

Yep that's the best bet. There was someone selling one just a couple of months ago on the forum. Why not put up a wanted post?
