Don't like the new badge; I much prefer the old flush one. But mine has got white worm on it too! still considering my options, might paint it hyper silver or something like that :/ Not too sure what can be done.

sorry.. can i clarify... i can fix a new badge onto the old boot release just plug and play so to speak?
thanks :sad1:

No!

The rear of the badge has different clips to fasten it to the boot release section

The only way to do it would be to remove the clips and glue the badge on (which I wouldn't really recommend!)
Why wouldn't you recommend this? I did it about 6 months ago and it's still good as new today

a guy on edition 38 has used some washers to space the badge/handle mechanism away from the inside of the boot. this has made the badge fit flush with the outside of the boot. Then to create a seal he has used silicone so water cant get in. looks good, and cant see why it wont work!!

For the thick end of a hundred quid i can live with the little bit of worm on mine.

Rather than create a new thread i'll bring this one back.

Im also looking to sort out the white worm on my rear badge, it's an 05 GTI so the old style.

I just want the standard look, no painting it different colours etc, so figure the best option is just a replacement badge? (Even if it is the new one that sticks out a bit?).

That said, i'll probably wait and replace the rear wiper motor at the same time, as mine has the ghost wiper affect! (Every so often the rear wiper starts going off when I star the car!)

To simply replace the badge, you have 2 options.... Buy a whole new mechanism (about £80 from VW), or strip yours down and fix a mk4 badge in place like I did (about £15 from VW). You cannot buy a mk5 boot badge to fi the early type handle as they're not a separate part unfortunately

Sorry to hijack the thread but my 2005 GTI has the same problem, just to confirm, will a striped down MK4 badge fit perfectly in the hole where my badge sits, and then bonded into place?

Thanks
