« on: May 07, 2010, 11:18:58 pm »
Hey guys ive been perving on this site for ages now. has helped me alot since i have brought my car
The story is i have a mk5 golf 06 plate 2.0 Gt Tdi 140
Have owned the car for 3 months now and i brought it with the turbo blown, which was replaced by a local mechanic turbo brought from breakers for 300 quid with 3 months warrenty. The bodywork wasn't up too scratch so gave it a full respray myself this morning, upgraded too gti front end fully smoothed and removed all the dents looks mint now :)
Driving home approx 10 miles drives fine.
Get home car is smoking from exhuast a bit too much,
went too drive it just now and smokes a hell of a load!!
Drives fine just leaves a sea of smoke behind
White smoke coming from exhuast also the dash is saying "emissions garage" and Oil sensor.
Oil sensor has been on for a while but oil is fine and topped up oil and still smokes~~
Any help will be much appreciated

When the turbo first failed did the oil seal break getting oil in the intake system? It might just be left over oil still burning off, can sometime take a while to completely clear. Was this second hand turbo fitted with new oil feed and return pipes and a oil and filter change carried out? Might be worth checking the bearings of the turbo on there now, if its used and doesnt have full oil flow it might be damaged.

Oil will not give 'white' smoke.

White smoke is either unburnt vapourised diesel, or steam - ie coolant.

Yeah but sometimes, people will describe blue smoke (burnt oil) as white smoke, just seems a little odd after a second hand turbo has been replaced, just a thought!

Well, unless they are colourblind, if they SEE blue smoke, then they should state blue smoke, not white smoke.  The colour of the smoke is absolutely crucial in obtaining a correct diagnosis . . . .  :stupid:

Yes i know it is! But sometimes people get confused, quite a few times ive been told by people they have got white smoke coming out the car and its been blue, just trying to give the guy a little help as to what it may be, not saying its that, as i said, a second hand turbo has just been fitted and if the correct repair method isnt carried out a repeat faliure can happen. Why dont you see if you can help the guy insatead of trying to have a go at me???  :stupid:  :stupid:  :stupid:
