A mate recently upgraded the sat-nav in his 2007 R32 to the one with the built in hard drive to store all his music etc and he has offered me his old sat-nav unit for £200. Are they any good and what is it worth?

Also, is it just a case of taking my current stereo out and putting this nav in?

The one your mate had is the MFD2 and is worth around £300. Straight swap for your old CD player. Will need coding if you have the highline computer.

How can I tell which computer I have?
And if it does need coding what is involved in it - main dealer and more money?

Highline are the full clocks which has a diagram of which door is open, like so:

Midline is half the size.

Coding can be done with VCDS (laptop diagnostic software that many members have) or by the dealer. Dealer will probably charge £30-£40.

What version is he selling you B or C. I sold my dvd based version C for £275 on ebay. The difference is the buttons along the bottom version C as silver ones and where the latest version of that model.

You really need a cd changer as the sat nav disc uses the slot when using the nav so you can't play cd's and use the nav at the same time without having the changer. You probably need the sat nav aerial as well.  :happy2:

Although this can be fitted in the air vent on top of the dash, and doesnt need to be run to a shark fin style antennae on the rear of the car.

Yes, I think you are right it must be the MFD2. If I have a TomTom I guess it is a pointless purchase though - or do they do anything else worth while with music etc..?
