Cheers, Rich  :drinking: I wish this camera had been available when I bought my FinePix F200EXR - Practical and fast manual controls are what I miss.

[Thinks: How does this Canon S95 compare to the Leica X1?]

@lfti:

Excellent YouTube vid - Even showed how to open the box! But... Nothing said about the lens ring except that it clicks... What's that do please? Manual aperture?

Thats a good point actually, I didnt mention that much.
I believe Rickwig83 has answered though, but yes, it can be used manually for a wide range of adjustments. You can set the ring to control whichever setting you choose.
Im new to all this photography stuff though, so may do another video once Ive worked my way round the camera a bit better.....

I'll create a more detailed video when I get my eye-fi card....

Not sure to be honest Robin, maybe cmdrfire will be better informed.

If your after fast manual controls the only way to get those is with a dslr, anything else will be a compromise. For instance, my Canon g12 has full manual functions, but by the time you've messed around with the small dials altering the shutter speed/aperture (and waited for the camera to respond) you'll have forgotten the reason why you left your house :signLOL:

The "ring" is a good idea, but I expect it to be far from the tactile experience you get with a dslr.

DSLR is still the best you can get, no doubt. I would have went for one but I wanted something more compact that I could take out to get the odd shot of the kids, rather then carry a large camera round my neck! The S95 had the best reviews, and seems like the cream of the crop at the moment when it comes to compacts, although its not the cheapest out there!

Like lfti, I'm only interested in compact digitals - I've owned Nikon and Canon full-blooded kits and appreciate their superior quality but not their size and weight. This S95 is a similar price to my FinePix and so I don't expect it's going to be a real competitor with the Leica X1. Price isn't everything in judging camera quality, but. I'd bet the price of a new Leica X1 that cmdrfire will have no hesitation in saying how superior the X1 is to the S95 - He loves Leica's and for good reason. I very much like the lens ring functionality though on this type of camera.

The X1 would get my vote based purely on the sensor size.

Well as i had to say goodbye to the last of my 3 Samojeddogs a fortnight ago, this purchase was not a big surprise, (not a photo of actual dog as it's only 4 days old today)

....That looks very tidy! Low level camera angle is really going to add to the sensation of speed! Fitted down in the foglight panel?
