No chance! Went up there last year for a friend's birthday and the English accent seems to make you about as welcome as a plate of pork at a bar mitzvah!

Is that a maisonette?

Nope, a maisonette is like a flat with two internal floors, in a bigger building.

Our place is four seperate homes, each with an external (own) door but inside it's all one level.

It's got 85m^2, so for a first home (at 24 y/o) I'm happy with it. Not something for life. Ideally I'll end up in a detached house, secure area with double/triple garage.

That's the official description, I think, but most people from southern England would describe a house-like building with a dwelling on each floor and (quite often) an external staircase as a maisonette.

This is the sort of thing near where I grew up:

If one of those were for sale the estate agent would definitely refer to it as a maisonette...

I think they would be called flats.

Ha ha, you're right. That's the type of building. When describing it to the missus' mum she called it a house/flat/villa. So I think we've covered all the bases. In Scotland it's mostly refered to as 'my house' regardless of what type of accomodation you live in.

What mortgage did you go for? As we're first time buyers (single income for two) we didn't have much choice but to go for 4.99% fixed for two years with 5% deposit. Less than £450 a month though, and no mortgage fees.

Means more money for shiney bits for the car. Or a 2nd shiney car 'for the missus'.  :happy2:

Being desperate to prove myself right, I thought I'd take a look on rightmove and only hit the bloody jackpot!

Err, no! I've never eaten their food but with something called "popcorn chicken" I'm not being overly swayed to try it either.
