Forge dv benefits

What would the benefits of getting the forge dv for my ed 30 be please? sorry if this is a thick question but not really sure what it does many thanks

There are others on this forum better placed to answer this than me.

However, from my experience having looked into a replacement DV i believe that changing the standard DV to a Forge one is only really required if you are running increased boost on the car.  More boost means more heat, and naturally more pressure, and thus the standard DV can fail.

I believe they both do the same job with the same outcome, just one is more reliable.  Could be wrong. 

Interesting though that the DV on the edition 30 is situated on the post intercooler side unlike the GTi which has it on the pre intercooler side.  Thus, this will help keep temperatures down and help increase life of the standard DV.

I think if you are running figures below 300bhp the DV may cope well, with an obvious reduced lifespan.  Perhaps those running stage 2 maps upwards have had their DVs replaced.  I'm sure the experienced guys on here can help with this.

Personally I'd go for the revision D valve. I've had both and there's a lot more leg work involved with fitting the forge DV than the new OEM solenoid based valve.

I'm in no position to quote actual base values for performance of each of the valves but I think some where there are threads on other forums doing a comparison between the 2. I'm now running the revision D and the fact it doesn't require any maintenance is a massive bonus on a K03, not as big a issue on the K04's as it's located at the slam panel.

On a bonus not the OEM valve is about a 3rd of the forge one which is a bonus.

The benefits of the Forge DV (and the REV D valve) are that they are piston type rather than diaphragm like the OEM ones. They both act faster than the diaphragm versions, are less prone to breaking (not heard of either piston types failing) and can easily take the added pressures from aftermarket upgrades.

What maintanance  is required on the forge? All I've done to it in 25k miles is replace the spring for a yellow
higher rated one??

As said above: many of us with earlier GTI's experienced failures of the oem DV and not just on remapped cars - It was a very widespread but random issue and VW went as far as Revision G! Their latest Rev D ought to strictly be called Rev H. Pity they took so long to solve it.

I'm still running a Forge DV - Beautifully engineered (though out of sight!) and nicely noisey.

So does this valve make any difference to sound or performance my ed 30 is on a 57 reg how would I tell what valve is fitted and would I bennifit from getting on I am running apt stage 1 so obviosly higher boost levals

I ran my dv with the spacer, made a fantastic chatter when lettin off throttle, would put it on the mk6 but i don't think it's compatible.

Most Mk5 GTI or 2.0T FSI owners don't favour the spacer. Not only is there possibly the potential for leakage (I'm not certain about this), but also dumping isn't needed with the engine's design.

Plus it makes a much louder and very chavvy sound. I went in an Octavia with one and it irritated me even after about 2 miles!
