RNS510 question
« on: June 09, 2010, 06:07:17 pm »
Hi guys im wanting to upgrade my RCD300 to an RNS510 system. will it be an easy straight swap over or will i need to get some one with vagcom to change things. im looking to getting a refurb unit off of ebay or somewhere, there seems to be quite a few to choose from which surprises me, do they go wrong?
Thanks in advance :happy2:

They should just go in without programming, however it can depend on what the car it came from had installed i.e soundpack etc

You dont need the adapter although it makes it easier, if you dont have the adapter then you just remove the plastic from around Fakra connector

I too am thinking about this but I'm trying to understand why they range in price so much?? There are loads on fleebay for £400 but they are from Luxemburg or Lithuania. Are they cheaper there or something?

There is obviously a market out they to get them cheap and sell them on. Any insight guys?

The postcode search is there,  but it's rubbish as you can't search for the last two digits, so it will only take you to a general area - useless in a city.

It can be a bit frustrating when you're goin to a place you don't know, with no house number and no nearby intersections. Spent 20 mins round dudley today before I decided to stop relying on googlemaps/rns and use my head. Found it within seconds.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

When I bought my GTI from the steeler I enquired about the highline computer...basically the steeler had no idea what this was so I got the standard one (I think you guys call this the midline??).

Anyway getting to the point....do I need a highline for the rns510 for it to show directions on the dash display? I am sure I have seen this on a screenshot somewhere.
