Mileage or extras?
« on: June 13, 2010, 10:22:07 pm »
Hey guys,  :happy2:

This is my first appearance from hiding in the shadows.

Im currently after a golf gti with about £13k to spend.

Now the question i pose is:

Would you rather have lower mileage and poor-ish spec (NEED the 18's) OR would you have a higer mileage car with all the bits and bobs?

Cheers guys, I look forward to your responses  :jumping:

Nick

Personal preferance really.

I like to have all the bits and pieces, low miles doesnt count for much other than resale value really and if you're buying a car now with selling it in mind then is it really what you want?

I've never been worried about mileage on VAG cars tho as they are typically built very well in my experience. Some people seem to put a lot of concern on mileage but as long as a car has been looked after then its not really much of an issue i dont think.

Lower mileage and fit the bits after. Come resale time, you will have an advantage over others with lower miles.

I think it would depend on the car and mileage. Depends on the optional extras. There are some that are easy to retrofit and others that are £££.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I guess you guys are right.

What is the opinion on leather? I have it in my clio at the moment as a recaro extra and MY GOD it gets sweaty in summer with no aircon   but i guess it looks superb.

Hmmm.  :chicken:

If you could save another grand you could get the best GTI ever, the Edition 30. Half leather seats which look great but won't rip your arse in the sun.

I bought mine 12 months ago, the only option I had on it was the heated seats,
Bought 18" Monzas for £400, sold my damaged 17s for £300,
Bought Xenons for £450, fitted cruise for £100, Multifunction, after selling my old steering wheel only £20 difference, RNS 510, £500, so you can realistically put pretty much every option you want on the car for less than £2k, and get a nice example of a low mileage car.

Do a detailed HPI check.

4 owners wouldn't worry me TBH.
