I think you're very lucky there as I don't think they're legally obliged to cover that once the warranty expires, unless I'm mistaken? I think that's a fabulous bit of service you've received there.

Why did they drop the bill by £650, particularly as it's relatively easy money? I'm pleased for you but I think I'd be wasting my time trying at my dealership, on past experiences.

It does seem strange that they'd drop the bill by so much until you start poking around for information -- specifically this article which says:

Quote
Volkswagen are covering replacements out of warranty, in Germany the parts are covered for five years and 150,000 km with Volkswagen covering 50% of the labour costs in the fourth year and none in the fifth year. In Australia cars have been covered 6 months out of warranty.

Although it references the situation in Germany, it does happen to be the exact same "deal" that was offered to me, i.e. 100% free parts and 50% free labour (as my car is now 4 years old).  Perhaps it's just a coincidence but I think that some dealers are just more on the level with their customers than others...

Hi Neimad,

Where was this dealership?

Cheers

Sorry for the late replies... been holidaying in Cornwall... in the blistering heat, where air-con would have helped no-end... ah well!  :drinking:

The dealership is Crewe VW in Cheshire.  I've been taking my car there for a few years now -- they do seem generally quite good, though sometimes their "free valet" isn't the best... by which I mean I ended up with two lovely scratches down my bonnet once... never did complain about that. :sad1:

i bought mine from crewe vw!! i have a post up now how mines knackered for second time. anyway the aircon didnt work wen i bought it from them, the tool who sold me it gave us the old 'it will just need a re-gas'. i would of got em to sort it but live 200 miles from there, took it to my local vw who confirmed knackered compressor!  :fighting:

Excuse my ignorance guys, but what's the difference in these two compressors and also, are they right for my 2006 GTI? The VW part number I require is listed, but then it seems to be listed against a good few of them! (1KO 820 803N)

I'll give it a whirl BL but looks like from the other thread you kindly posted on, that it's outside my budget at a tonne more than the one I was looking at. I'm not sure what brand the one the europarts offer is, but tbh I want the best priced one that will fit my GTI. Not fussed on what brand etc... As long as it works, that's cool with me  :happy2:

Ta!
