x2 with Edd666999 get rid of Norton and please please please don't get an i5! i5 is basically a crippled i7 and there's absolutely no point getting one for a gamer PC! I have an i7 920 and it can be overclocked very nicely and is more than enough for all games. I'd also get more than 4GB of RAM, I'd say 6GB is the minimum for decent gaming and there really isn't much cost difference.

Second GPU is nice but not essential IMO.

The 2nd gpu is an upgrade imo, in say 2years games start comming out that can use 8threads, and need a blueray drive he wont have to spend another 1k on a new machine, just speand £40 on a drive and £200 on a 2nd graphics card and he has a new machine. If he wen down the over clocking route that ram and cpu love it haha

@Edd, I wonder if it's even worth buying an optical drive these days  :rolleye: with Steam I just download all my games now... haven't actually put a CD in since the Win7 install!

Yep, sorry, that was a given. 64-bit ftw.

i would stick the one out of the old machine into it.

and wait for blueray to drop in price.

if i had a bit more cash a 64gb SSD and blueray would be on the cards
