How do you mount a sub/amp in the boot?
« on: July 10, 2010, 11:10:35 pm »
Hey folks,

I've recently purchased an Alpine SWE-1000 it's basically an 8" amp/sub combined, you know the underseat style ones... So quite small.

Anyway managed to route all the wires into the boot neatly (rear passenger side when looking into the boot)
I'd like to mount it against the tyre well / on the boot floor but have tried velcro on the lining, and on the sub and no joy, even though it doesn't weigh much, it still won't hold.
It does come with a metal bracket and screws, but surely it's not good to screw/drill into the panels in the boot? Won't it cause rust? It would basically mean screwing a total of 4 screws down into the boot flooring?

Any ideas guys - this is the only thing holding me back as everything else is installed.

Sean :)

PS > I've put the ground wire against the metal handle thing in the boot (the ones either side) I lifted it up, unscrewed one screw, put the ground cable in and then re-screwed it back in, is that where most people use?

i would make sure you scratch of any paint in the area of where you screwed your ground cable down.

You can get strong and weak velcro just so you know, and velcro would be your best bet.

Hi Ed,

This *may* be a silly question, but if I look for the stronger velcro... Would it work just sticking it on the amp and letting the velcro stick to the boot carpet? Or best to use it both on the carpet and on the back of the amp?

re Ground - Yeah I think I may look for another location, as they look 'metal' but im not convinced they are a good ground - it's basically those 2 handle things either side in the boot, im not sure what they are for originally...

I might have a look for the rear seat belt bolt... There is also a grounding point behind the taillights, but believe this to be on the driver side rear, the cable won't stretch that far.

it will stick to the carpet yes, you can get vercro with more "hoops" and that should grab onto the carpet pretty well.
