Number plate bulbs
« on: August 09, 2010, 04:52:12 pm »
Hi guys  :happy2:

just wondering if anyone has changed their rear number plate lights for something like the new bright White BMW led/bulbs?

I've read that it could show fault codes or just plainly not work, but it'd improve the rear, no end.

Anyone managed it?

Cheers :)

Theres an expensive kit that costs around £35  it's got 18 led bulbs and ir very good by all accounts. But i ain't paying that kinda money.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-Q5-A4-S5-A5-VW-Passat-18-LED-Number-Plate-Lights-/120605758485?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c14a9d415

I went for 8 led bulbs with resistors so no fault codes, £8
Haven't fitted them yet,
I bought replacements for all the interior bulbs also, gonna do them all at the same time soon.
I also got phillips silver vision's to replace the orange indicator bulbs.

These are the ones i bought, Not massively bright, Just a big improvement over the standard yellowy bulbs.
Just remove the old ones and pop the new ones in.

I just put 6 SMD LED ones in my vRS and they work fine. No resistors or anything and no warning's on the dash

Got them from eBay for my interior lights and was sent an extra set so tried them out of curiosity and they worked :happy2:

Someone bought a set of ebay a while back but there were issues with fitting them in a mk5 they worked for a while then gave up the ghost. I have been wanting a set but wnated to make sure they were reliable first.

These are the ones i have

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220600104123&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2251wt_1139

Not sure if the bulbs are the same in the MK5 but on the Octy they are just 272 Festoon Bulbs in a holder.

They are very bright and do a good job of lighting up the floor around the boot area at night  :happy2:
