Advice please on ED 30 I've put Holding Deposit on
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:28:34 pm »
Hi all

Some of you may have been following this thread and read about the fun I've had trying to get me 'the cheapest Edition 30 on the net!!!!' anyway I hoping you guys can give me some tips on what I should be looking out for when I go to view it on Saturday as I know I will be wearing my Rose Tints big time.

Here some pics of it to start with

Speil from AT Advert

•   2007 (07 reg)
•   Hatchback
•   Mileage
•   Manual
•   2.0L
•   Petrol
5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, Grey, Heated Seats, Alloy Wheels, Radio/CD Player, Leather, Central Locking, Power Assisted Steering, Anti-Lock Braking, Electronic Stability Program.£10,499

As the original advert from their site has been removed from the net I can't even remember what extras it had on it.. so if anyone can point them out from the pics and tell me what you get on the Edition 30 over a standard GTI that would be great. Also point out what it hasn't got would be cool too.

They did say it had a bluetooth parrot whatever that is.

The sales lady said they have cam chains rather than belts is this true?

They also said they would provide me with a HPI certificate.. should I settle for this or get my own done ?

Once I've looked at it and want to take it they will sort out any bodywork that need sorting included in the price.. she said there was a slight scuff on the bottom of the front bumper and a couple of chips on the rear bumper that would be sorted. They also said they would replace any tyres if they were below 1.6mm included in the price..you can guarantee the tyres won't be that low then. You also get 7 days insurance, 120 point check and valet.

It was served at 66000 at VW and now on 72000 what are the servicing intervals on these ? from what I read on here longlife isn't good if it's on that.

The car was originally own by them new and the owner p/ex it against a new VXR (think she said) so if that's true sounds good.

She said according to the V5 it was a UK car

Need to find out about MOT and Tax.. those tinted glasses seem to work even when on the phone I didn't ask any useful questions  :surprised:

What do you pay tax on these per year ?

Is it worth bothering with their Warranty for an extra £299 ?

Is insurance much more on these over a standard GTi as I got a quote for a standard one and it was an extra £120 a year compared to my 2002 GT TDI 150.

That good enough to be going on with

Thanks in advance for tips  :happy2:

From the pics, I can see that it hasn't got rear parking sensors and no rear tints. Judging by the aerial I don't think it has Sat Nav.

I can see from the pic of the rear wheel that it has a Michelin tyre, lol.

I have a Parrot handsfree kit too in mine, previous owner must've installed it, I've not used it yet though.

The HPI they provide you with should be ok, just look through it obviously, make sure its all ok.

On the V5, the First Date of Registration and First Date of Registration in the UK should match, this is a good indication that the car is not an import.

I think the tax is around £235 a year.

The insurance for the Ed30 is group 18, where as standard gti is 17 so shouldn't be much more on top.

I reckon they should give you a years MOT if you ask nicely.

VWKD,

When are you going to view the car, I'm relatively local, well Telford and Motorhouse are in Brownhills, so not to far away if you want me to have a look with at the car with you?

I thought the PH add had it listed with only 19k miles?

IIRC they said it had Lux and Winter Packs, but you'll to have a look yourself for these as some dealers/sellers have no idea what these contain.

Not sure what other options it has...

Certainly as the others have said:

No:

Xenons
Sunroof
Rear parking sensors
Rear tint's
DSG
SAT NAV (normal aerial, but hey mine has sat nav with the normal aerial)

YES

Metallic Paint
5 doors

Possible:

Cruise
Rear Airbags
Luxury Pack
Winter Pack
Sound System (AMP and 10 speakers) RCD300?

.... :happy2:

Feel free to update if I've missed anything... :signLOL:

Cheers,

Wayne

Only way to check if its an import is to check the dealer PDI stamp in the service book or speak to VW with the chassis number, if it has cruise control and NO service book handy or the previous owner "hasnt dropped it in yet" then theres a good chance its not a UK car - which in itself isn't a problem especially if its over three years old. Just forewarning you thats all.

If theres no evidence of a cam belt change then they would need to do that for you imho - dont worry about the MOT a 3 year old golf should fly through - you'd be better off bargaining for something else like bodywork or wheel refurbs.

Look like it has a MFSW which is good news

if you get the vin or reg number and ring up a vw garage or customer services they will give you information on anything the car has had done to it within the dealer network (service, recalls, warranty work etc). they can also tell you where the car was first registered off the vin.

abs and aircon can be a problem make sure it has a complete service history or your warranty covers these parts (abs £1200 plus) if they have not been done.

ring vw customer service before you go they have always been helpfull when i have used them .

Hi Moschops,

I'm heading up tomorrow morning (coming from Chippenham, Wiltshire)  aiming to get there about 10. If you're about then that would be great  :happy2:

The one you are thinking of on PH wasn't the actual car it was the car that the bloke trying to make a quck buck stole pics from.

Thanks for all the advice amazing stuff.

I just called VW off the back of what some of you have said and very nice they were....
Was told Cam belt changes are 4 years or 110k so I guess not due one yet.
Apparently only been serviced at VW once -  May 2008 at 17k
It's on a long life service  (2 years 20k)
All Recalls have been done
and UK car.

So interesting to see where the servicing has been done ! I'm sure she told me it was done at 66k with VW

Just got this back from motorhouse....
Quote from: motorhouse

I dealt with the other customer yesterday when he was here so I went
through the whole pack.

I have got some info here though for you.

The vehicle was serviced 3 previous times at the company it was
originally owned by at 17, 38 and 50,000 miles.

There is no service book just the invoices, Which is better as you know
what was done to the car not just a stamp with miles and a date on it.

There is 2 keys and a leather wallet with handbook in there.

The vehicle has current m.o.t until August 2011 and the road tax is the
responsibility of the customer on collection day.

The vehicle has half leather, heated seats and climate control, as well
as the other standard items.

No service book will be a problem come resale time, but I guess that's already been reflected in their price.
