fuel pump leak
« on: September 02, 2010, 06:08:30 pm »
I decided to swap my cam follower today, took the right hand side metal connector off my fuel pump but realised I didn't have the correct M8 spline for the left side, so put the right side back on, put everything back together, opened my drivers door and the left un touched metal pipe started leaking fuel! I have tried tightening the bolts to no effect.

I'm going to get the correct M8 bit tomorrow and take it off, does anyone have any ideas why its pi**ing fuel!

Apart from something has come loose i can't think why.

Are you sure it's coming from there and not spraying from the one you did remove on to that one.

Opening the driver's door primes the fuel pump hence the leakage.

It shouldn't be leaking if it's all put back together. Which is what the OP did before opening the door.

100% sure, it drips drips drips! it got worse when i tightened it!!!

i just hope that tomorrow when i get the correct bit that i can change the follower, put the pump back together and have no leak...otherwise...new screws? or pump possibly.

do you have access to that program that tells you the part numbers for the pump and all the metal connectors that go into the front of it?

i also fitted a new n75 valve as it was only £20 from dealers and took me 40mins to fit being very carefull.

Sounds like a real pig! My guess would be overtightening or you have cross threaded the connector.

Careful you don't bend the metal pipes too much when getting thebolt loose. The pipes need to be bent slightly though to remove the pump.
The connections need to be nipped tight not overtight.

Hard to describe but you should be able to feel it.

Oh and don't be daft enough to drive it whilst leaking fuel :rolleye:
