depends on your firmware
1100 or below 2Gb SD card format

1200 and up 32GB SDHC card format

you need to have the secret menu activated, which is bought up by holding down setup, which will show you the radio setup menu and then if the button is held longer will enter full setup mode and you can then find the software and hardware versions.

But you may need VCDS to activate this function.

I have no idea of the firmware and model years, actually just noticed this is RCD which have different firmware versions.  and looking at the my-gti link the rcd510 has always supported sdhc so looks like you will be good upto 32gb card.

Sorry for the confusion, I just saw 510 and and missed the C.
