I use an app called 'Numberstore' on my iPhone - you just dial the 0800 etc number as normal, and it'll do a quick search and ring the standard rate number instead.
Works great.

There is also a website www.saynoto0870.com - that can also find the local version of any 0800/087 etc number, or will find numbers by simply searching for the company name.

the say no to 0870 is an excellent resource.

Having an app that will try and find one automatically is one step better IMO.
