Need a new rear VW badge, advise needed!
« on: September 17, 2010, 04:00:32 pm »
Hi guys, its probably been covered alot before, but I cant find a specific answer to my Question..

My rear badge has the horrible white worm, now if I carefully remove the shiney badge part, will a Mk4 badge fit in the recess perfectly?

Has anyone got any pictures of this done?

I dont fancy buying a whole new Mk5 mechanism.

Thanks!

Mine has a bit of worm on it 05 reg. I think you need the whole rear handle with the new style raised badge mate, hence the reason i can live with mine.

I'm sure there is a thread saying you can get the badge off and replace it with a MK4 badge??

There are 2 styles of badge the early mk5's you can't remove the silver badge but later models the silver badge can be removed. I believe the earlier badge is the only one to suffer from white worm.

Early tailgate badge

Later tailgate badge

I know you said you didn't want to replace it but replacing or spraying it i think are your only options.

Yes it can, but having already replaced mine I am happy that I fitted a MK6 badge :jumpmove:

The Mk6 badge is far nicer than the MK5 and fits exactly the same, simply plug and play and they dont corrode.

I would seriously recommend this over a replacement MK5 one especially if you are buying new as they are priced similiar.
