List what you are actually going to use it for and budget, that will help a lot better in figuring out what to recommend.

Yep and there are no issues (that i am aware of) now with bluetooth not working on older modules since Apple released iOS 4.1 update

Some of the newer phones support AD2P as well so you can stream music from the phone through the car speakers.

I just use my phone as a phone mainly, texting etc with the odd internet search. But do like the idea of the Iphone type device as a gadget.
Budget isn't really an issue within reason

The two main contenders then really are Apple & HTC

Best bet would be to go to a Phone shop and have a play with the phones to see which is best for you. :happy2:

In that case, get the Iphone 4.  Not a fan boy, however I must admit that they have cleared up the useability of the iPhone since the first incarnation.

The non phone facilities it offers such as...

5MP Camera - Good for quick snaps
Google Maps - good for traffic updates and occassional navigation (foot and car)
Music Player - Always helpful
eMail - If you have an eMail account
PIM - syncs with outlook well

Is very simple to use.  Also on the privacy side of things (Bar Apple knowing what you are doing) is pretty airtight out of the box.

Are you buying offline or in a contract?  If contract think hard before signing, otherwise if you are buying outright (£500 or £600 depending on disk size) then get it and see how you get on (after spending a few hours doing everything you would normally do with your current phone, of course)

Think he was trying to suggest that you might be able to get it cheaper out right and take a shorter or cheaper contract.  It can sometimes be fairly tight in terms of cost difference if your only a low volume user.

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

iPhone4 contracts are at least 18 months so if this is not your cup of tea, the (effective Hire Purchase agreement you sign) could tie you into a device you either

1) Do not like
2) Do not make full use of

for others who have the use of Facebook, Tapatalk, gMail, Sat Nav, MSN, photos, music etc, then the money is worth the investment.  In your case, it seems like you really have no need for all the features and would be better off buying a simple phone, without a contract and signing up for whatever service provision fits your needs.

An iPhone 4 is not necessarily cheaper bought outright than contract.

For Example i have a 32GB iPhone on an 18Month £60p/m contract. This also gives me a free upgrade 6 months early as im a platimum customer with O2 so in effect i have a 12 month contract

I paid nothing for the phone as i sold my 3GS which covered getting me out of my contract at the time and the cost of the phone (which would have been £29)

So iPhone 4 free
12 Months Contract £720

Total cost is £720

Buy the same phone outright.

32Gb iPhone 4 £600
Spend £10 a month topping up (over 12 months) £120

Total cost £720.

So it's not always the case that a contract works out more expensive :happy2:

Ah but what about if you do not want the phone and want to resell and move operator?  Then you are tied in, hence why the advise is to look hard before signing up for a contract.

I dont disagree that people need to think and weigh up all the options beforehand. Any one who doesn't only has themselves to blame if they end up stuck with something they don't like/can't afford.

I'm just pointing out that it is a common mis-conception that a contract works out more expensive when sometimes it doesn't :drinking:
