It's not a fun job to do indeed! Give us feedback if that sorted the heat soaking issue.  :happy2:

Good stuff.  WOO indeed  :happy2:  Good work on the seat repair.  I need to replace my lumbar support mechanism and the back rest heating element....but erm...yeah, you can only get the heating element as part of the entire upper seat cover, at £850.  Cheers for that VW  :happy2:

Thanks chaps. Seem like it's blowing nice and cold when I took it out today.

That's a sh*tter about the heater element I presumed the seat covers for the ed30 would be obsolete now. Can you not harvest one from a different seat?

Yeah still available, probably dry rotting in a warehouse somewhere because they would rather throw them away than sell them off cheaper.

I've replaced the covers on MK4 R32 seats before what a ball ache that job is!  A passenger seat from Europe might be the best option.

You can retrieve the parts from another mk5 Golf electric and heated seat and swap them to your seat. It'll be much cheaper.

All this talk about cam followers and camshaft lobe wear was starting to make me nervous. I had checked this 1000 miles ago and though for the sake of £50 I would throw on a new one. I think this is probably follower number 3 on this engine.

If I’ve read that right, that’s a lot of wear for 1000 miles. Normal wear pattern though, so the cam lobe is fine. Uprated fuel pump?

Sorry. I meant I had checked it 1000 miles ago and decided it could do with a change. It's probably got 50-70k on it, last changed 2015. Oem pump

Not too bad a job. Luckily the screw was ok but it really needs a new on as it's head is corroded.  Lots of black crap inside.

Well that wasn't fun. Spark plugs. No4 was rusty on top and pig to get out. No2 was also very difficult to remove, felt like the thread was spinning.

I think I'll change plugs every service from now on.

Also these plugs used to be made in Japan but they are now made in Thailand. Just FYI.

Good job on the fuel filter, mine was a complete pain… my pipes wouldn’t budge!

Spark plugs should not get rusty… water shouldn’t be getting anywhere near there…!
Check your seals on your coils.
Getting too old for this...

I agree.  I might swap the coil packs for new r8 ones soon, although the seals looked fine.
