Uprated Clutch questions

Hi all,
I am starting to feel a little clutch slip, what is the most recommended clutch?
So far I have heard of the Sachs clutch but reports are it's quite heavy and sharp. Other option is the VWR clutch which is a little more cash.
Another question, do I need both the disc and cover plate or will just the disc suffice? I heard with just the VWR disc it still holds well and has same pedal feel as stock but the bite point is higher than if you get the cover plate and disc.

i am using a helix clutch on my ed30. Its slightly stiffer  than standard but perfectly usable. Speak to rtech power for clutch prices..

I'm using the sachs upgraded plate and cover, the pedal is a little stiffer and the bite point is higher, its its been perfectly usable from day 1

i believe i have the vwr one, bitting point i thought was a bit lower than standard, heavy ish but no means too heavy at all.

I have the Sach's fitted to mine and my biting point is lower than on my std clutch, pedal is heavier too but then again I expected this.

Someone told me that the Sachs clutches are noisey and clunky at low speed/setting off. Any basis to this?

Absolute rubbish in my experience. I've had a Sachs clutch on my vRS for almost 50k miles and the only thing that is different to OEM is the pedal is a bit stiffer.

^^^^^^^Agreed, Thankfully.

I'd not heard of this before, if I had of done I maybe wouldn't of gone for it.

But no, there are no other problem's apart from slightly heavier and (currently) a bit lower biting point.  Although I am led to beleive this will change with a bit more use.

In 50k miles my biting point and pedal stiffness is the same as day 1  :smiley:

The only problem i have ever heard of is "Clutch Judder" which is usually due to them not being run in properly when installed. JKM did mine and had the car for a couple of days to bed it in properly before returning it to me. :happy2:

Either that or they were just ragging it round Portsmouth for a laugh :laugh: :laugh:

Running a helix in my ed30 with a single mass flywheel for the last 1500k so far so good  :happy2: and had it on the 1/4 mile last weekend well impressed  :smiley:

So you would say your biting point is still as stock Carl?

Place that fitted mine said that after a few mile's it would become more like it was.

Pretty much mate yeah. There may be a slight difference in pedal travel. But it's not something i have noticed to be honest.

I drove a mate's standard vRS recently and apart from almost pushing my foot through the floor when i pressed the pedal (i forgot how spongy they were  :laugh:) i would say the biting point was the same.

I think they must have been talkin about SMF set-ups, they can rattle at tickover
