My office at work is right next to the car park.

Just a few mins ago, heard a sudden deep rumble. Look up to see one of the bosses roll in with a brand new White Golf R.

That engine sounds, just....WOW!

Will try get a pic when she's not looking....

Has she changed the exhaust?  In essence same 4 pot donkey as the GTi etc

The R models do have a deeper sound somehow. You can tell when my neighbour has an R from the noise.

Dunno about the Rocco R but the oem Golf R most definitely sounds deeper than any of the previous 4-pot Golfs when they're on oem xzorsts.

That's why I prefer my Milltek to the sounds of the APR and Blueflame - It sounds deeper, even if not so hardcore.

I agreed with RR, the R does sound deeper for sure.  Would love to hear it with a miltek on

They do sound absolutely fantastic for a 4cyl turbo to be honest. I think it's a noticeable improvement over the GTI and ED30 factory sound. This illustrates it well:

i hate to say it, but i was out in one on friday, and while it sounded good, it was still the only let down on the car.  Comparing it to a V6, which is what it is replacing, there really is no comparison.  An R32 sounds awesome, the golf R sounds great.  but then the golf r is quicker, lighter, cheaper to run, and tax, is better for the enviroment, and still sounds great...

@ rdfcpete:

Nice quality sound on that Golf R clip you posted  :drinking:. YouTube soundclips are too often rather amateur..... Because they are amateur!

The exhaust on the mk6 does seem to change tone and volume after its done a few thousand miles, my GTI is far far  louder and much deaper than it was when new or nearly new..

....I think that's true of all exhausts as they coke up and mature.

[goes off to find pic to post of hot babe snorting coke]

Another way to hear more xzorst music is to put the back seats down.

Perhaps VW were aware of how many folks love the .:R32 V6 sound and made more effort with its Golf R successor regarding exhaust sound. I certainly much prefer the styling of the Golf R to the Mk6 GTI.
