Balanced and matched Mahle Motorsport pistons and DM rifle drilled rods. Need to gap the rings then they can get built up.

Block now bored to 83mm and honed to perfection. Block has had a very slight skim too.  Will get painted up to look better than new.

Valves are on their way over, so the head can get finished.  Won't be long until the engine is together.

Body shop work is coming along nicely.  Not giving away what's being done until it's finished.

rifle drilling is a process that produces deep, straight holes in a variety of materials. A rifle drill tool differs from a conventional twist drill by its unique head geometry; a standard rifle drill has a single effective cutting edge. Guide pads burnish the hole while drilling, allowing the hole to maintain straightness. The result of this burnishing activity is a very round hole with a precision diameter.
when drilling with a normal twist drill you will get drill wander and a slightly ovaal hole unless reemed. the gun/rifle drilling process is much more accurate but slower band more expensive but overall much better.
another process that can be used is using slip collars after drilling which are pullled through a drilled hole to prevent star cracking around a hole.

i previously worked in london undergrounds machine shops producing points and crossings and all these process were used
Regards,

Mike

Always better to have the bores honed when rebuilding instead of just dropping pistons in

And rifle drilled rods allow more oil to cool the bearings.. If you look at the picture of the rods you will see the hole drilled

Alex is this setup fixed or floating pin (The bearing material on the little end gives the game away  :ashamed:) are you aware of any DLC coating on the gudgeon pins themselves.  :happy2:

As alex has described rifle drilling is pretty good  :happy2:  I've seen spark eroded holes on the 2.0 TFsi sparked from either end to meet in the middle with a nice stress raiser step halfway up.  Needless to say the rods decided they weren't happy and made a right mess.

New wheels have sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much clearance to the brakes.  Very very happy!

Engine is coming along when I get the odd 20 seconds here and there.  Polished the crank, fitted the APR main studs and fitted the crank.  Ring gapping next then the pistons and rods will go in.
