DIY coilover installation tools req.
« on: October 04, 2010, 11:26:36 am »
Hi Chaps

Would anybody be kind enough to lend me a few tools in order to fit my coilovers?

I'm after a 21/22mm strut nut socket which will allow me to fit a 7mm allen key through the middle, a 14mm 12 point (triple square) driver, a 12 point 24mm socket & a strut spreader bit (not essential)

I'm based in northants, more than happy to assist with a machine polisher in return or beer/ lemonade tokens

I am a bit to far away but for the socket I found/bought an old one and ground flats for a spanner so it would still fit down the hole but could use a spanner on it.

7mm allen keys are hard to get hold of so I took a spare 8mm and ground it down so it was almost a perfect 7mm.

This was for my mk2 but it must be exactly the same because I had to make them.

I used an angle grinder, sounds bodgy, but needs must sometimes and when your in the sh*t.

Its worse on a mk2, I had to chat my VAG mate up for his special damper VAG tool, he had not used it for about 15 years!

On those when you buy new dampers its just a standard nut now holding on the top mount, which I guess is what your trying to remove?
