Mine is clunking from 3-2 and 5-6 just had a new mechatronic for this and its no better and its made the other issues worse to. yet another trip back to VW in the new yr, joy
Can anyway link the dsg reset page from ross-tech as i cant seem to find it. cheers

hello everybody, i have just found this old topic. i'm not a gti owner, my car is a gof VI, 1.6 mpi engine and DSG7 gearbox. although it is not a very powerful engine  :smiley: , nothing remapped or something, i have the same problem when DSG changes from 3 to 2, deaccelerating and after, that lag when accelerating again. my car has still warranty and this problem begins to appear from about 5000Km (currently 11000). all the settings the technicians tried (adaptations, resets, sw upgrade) were not helped much. lastly, they did some settings (didn't want to tell me what  :fighting:) who reduced the problems almost totally, but after a while i'm back to its original problems. i need your advice please, the only solution is to change the mechatronics? the technicians are very scared of this operation, and I saw some other resolutions from HQ that would be a normal operating state... this happens only in Romania, or everywhere else?

Yeah replacement of Mechatronics is your answer. Sorry to report, (got info from VW head office in New Zealand) that the first gen 7spd DSG (2008-2009) where by far the worst for failing.
It appears most of the issue are actually heat related more than anything else.

Not all problems with the DSG are down to the Mech unit. indeed he has the newer version which is quite a bit different so it's wrong to make assumptions. Just take it to a garage that can fix the problem. If your garage is scared of changing one out then dont use them.  :happy2:

Lol, yeah I know that. but as described above. that was happening on my DSG one of the 5 Mechatronics replacement units. Replacement was that issue's cure.
But yes, doing a DSG reset and or oil change can sometimes fix the issue's too.

This is all going wrong!!


If you have a fault with you dsg box or it makes noise doesn't mean its mechantronics is chuffed it,
The mechantronic part of the box works on valves and uses the fluid to Manover the box, the dsg system does "as mentioned" learn your driving, however as with all things the when the values exceed a limit (the feedback from the box to the mech) they sometimes loose sync and the box will sill operate however will be notchy as it's just engaging gears how it wants. The down side to this is that how the dsg box mech works (by firing oil using valves i small holes into the dsg box) can make things worse if you have other problems (like low fluid,filter clogged giving you surges of notchy changes)

The dsg reset should help and give you a starting point, my first point of call would be to just change the dsg oil and filter £169 at the moment, this does require us to use the 50/52 to run the box up to temp and tell us how much fluid is in there and it would make sense and it's already on a test plan to do basic settings on the box, irratic gear changes genrallg mean a deffo mech fault and the mechtronics is what starts the change :)

This may not sound to "explained" I allways find it hard to try to explain things like this

thank you all for replying, in my first post i forgot to mention other sporadic symptoms: a couple of times driving on highway at 130/120 km/h, at about 3000/2800 rpm, in the D7 gear,  suddenly it begins to switch D7-D6-D7-D6 ... for about about 15-20 seconds with a frequency of about two changes per second (rev counter indicates +/- 200 rpm), without anything changing, constantly accelerating, no sudden wind, without any slope or ramp. this kind of gear switching was happened another 2 times, after beginning to move from stand still, switching D1-D2 about the same rate, while slow accelerating, the car tends to stop. even though I seriously  pressed the gas pedal to avoid disturbing traffic ...
again, sorry for my english  :innocent:

Now this sounds mechatronic related, the best thing to do is get it booked in, take it in the night before so they can drive it from cold.

hello everybody, long time no post... but meanwhile nothing happened. except some mails exchanged with the factory. till now.
finally, the technicians changed my DSG7 gearbox (all of it, mechanics + mechatronics + clutch discs) with a new one, sent from the factory in the last month of  warranty... but... surprise!!! the old MAIN problem is still there: when DSG changes from 3 to 2, deaccelerating, sometimes the car is clunking again! (my other problems described two posts ago seems to be soved for the moment, but time will tell)
do you have any ideas about this problem? could this be due to some engine problems? I am very confused and disappointed about VW...

You could have problems with VW when they plug in and see that you have a DSG remap, may not touch it or overwrite your remap.
