Black badge
« on: November 23, 2010, 08:21:13 am »
I'm thinking of replacing the chrome front badge with a black/carbon fibre one. How much should I be expecting to pay and also is it an easy job??

The front VW badge can be removed in two ways:

1. Push in and turn anticlockwise. Has the risk of breaking off one of the tabs, though I guess this isn't an issue if you're throwing it away.
2. Remove the front grille (two torx and two phillips screws), then push in the tabs and remove. Safer.

I got mine from dubstop too. Had it on the car for over a year without any problems.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

That's sounds a little difficult for someone who hasn't a creative bone in their body!

If I use the method where you push the badge in and turn it anticlockwise, is there a risk of damaging the grill or is it just a risk of damaging the actual badge? I'd like to keep the badge invade I ever want to put it back on but don't fancy taking the front grill off.

I like the matte black one from dubimports and I'll probably go for that so thanks guys. But does anyone know where I can get a carbon fibre one that I've seen?

I've ordered the one from dubstopimports. If however I decide to get it wrapped in faux carbon fibre vinyl, is their anyone on here who could do it for me? Beer tokens would obviously offered in exchange!

The front grill is a doddle to remove...
Without traction power is nothing!

its really simple mate, all you need to do is put the vinyl over the badge and get a stanley knife (or similar) and take your time with it  :happy2:
